Great spot to stop with the family.
We stopped on the way to no Name pub. Great time on big pine key.
Nice walking trail and boardwalk. Seems to be 2 resident gators in the water hole. Kids loved seeing them up close. Lots of native plants marked with signs.
Nice short walk. It would be better if the trail continued around the pond and probably best for wildlife at dawn. We saw labeled plants along the trail. Plus the resident alligators and some large fish in the murky water.
No facilities.
We always enjoy stopping here and nearly always see the gators. Today was no exception. A volunteer told us so much about what we were seeing and what was going on there now. Great place to stop!
Definitely worth a short detour although you can't ever be guaranteed to see all the wildlife.
We were lucky enough to see several deer including a buck, does and a fawn. Make sure you are quiet walking through the forest or you may scare away the animals before you see them.
It's clear some people have fed the deer in the past which you should never do. Although we had no food with us, one deer approached my son looking for food.
Unfortunately we didn't see any alligators.
Also be aware there are no restcrooms here.

Small. Educational. Always a nice stop to stretch your legs. We were lucky and the gators were right at the viewing area. Nice walk around the hole. Lots of cool informational points. I've been coming here since I was a kid. Never gets old.
This is an old limestone quarry. Beautiful mother nature at work. We didn't see any key deer here but did see a few while driving and unable to capture a picture while driving.
Well worth a visit. The viewing point and signs explain the background of the hole. The guide at the viewpoint explained in more detail about the history and some details about the birds and fish. Unfortunately, we did not see an alligator, but still worth a visit.
The nature found here is beautiful. Alligators, deer, raccoons and all sorts of birds. The plants and trees are some great examples of what is found here in the lower keys.
